Dear Financial Women’s Association Members and Supporters,
I’m so pleased to welcome you to this very exciting evening, which celebrates the achievements of some very distinguished, inspiring women.
What an honor it is to commemorate the FWA Educational Fund’s nearly 40 years of advancing young women in our financial community through our mentoring, FWA scholars, financial literacy, Wall Street Exchange and business community programs. Our programming is the result of your support, the hard work of our volunteers and staff, and our corporate and educational partners’ commitment to accelerating the success and leadership of women.
With your philanthropic contributions, the FWA has been able to impact our financial community and the lives of aspiring young women and men, enriching their knowledge and providing opportunities through a network of professionals dedicated to their success. In these journal pages we detail FWA’s important initiatives and achievements.
Each year, the FWA recognizes the contributions of the outstanding honorees receiving our Woman of the Year awards.
Judith Rodin, Ph.D. is our distinguished Public Sector Woman of the Year. Dr. Rodin is the first female President of The Rockefeller Foundation. She is President Emerita of the University of Pennsylvania and the first woman in our country to lead an Ivy League institution.
Our Private Sector Woman of the Year is Barbara J. Krumsiek, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer, Calvert Investments. Under her leadership, the Calvert Women’s Principles were created, marking the first global code of corporate conduct focusing exclusively on empowering, advancing and investing in women worldwide.
Betsy West, our Visionary Woman of the Year, is an Executive Producer of Storyville Films. She is part of the leadership team that created the AOL/PBS documentary and video library “MAKERS: Women Who Make America.” The documentary and online interviews of more than 100 female groundbreakers exist as a testament to the challenges, successes and in-roads women have made in the past few decades.
We honor the accomplishments of these wonderful women, and provide inspiration to our young mentees, members and supporters. By acknowledging our power, we empower in return. We have no choice, really, after looking back than to give back.
So tonight, let’s celebrate and be inspired by one another—and proudly pave the way for a new generation of remarkable women who will become financial leaders of tomorrow.
My best wishes,
Susan L. Harper
